WBC Refuse Collection disruption due to the weather

Monday 2nd February 2009

After around 3 hours of collections a series of weather induced trips and falls have unfortunately led to the decision to suspend the service. I think a big well done to SITA for at least trying to perform a normal service is in order.

However, that leaves us with a large amount of refuse and recycling uncollected from today and with another likely snowfall later today the possibility of another suspension. The following are the contingencies to overcome this service disruption:

Refuse Collection (residual waste)

The policy will be to collect as much as can safely be collected on the appropriate day and then return on the same day next week. This will make communication with residents easier and cause minimum disruption in trying to catch up.

Dry Recycling (black boxes)

As a alternate weekly service it would be difficult to suspend this service for what would amount to 4 weeks from the last collection so we will endeavour to clear all the dry recycling up by this Saturday (7th February).

Green Waste

As the tonnage is relatively low at the moment SITA have agreed to clear the green waste as with the dry recycling.

Contingencies Based on Current Situation

Please note that the above contingencies are based on the current and forecast conditions for today and tomorrow only and will be re-visited should the current conditions continue beyond Tuesday.
