NOTIFICATION OF WORKS

PROPOSED WORKS IN WOKINGHAM BOROUGH, BERKSHIRE.

The following works are being undertaken by Wokingham Borough Council.

CARRIAGEWAY RE-SURFACING – BARKHAM ROAD (PHASE 1)

Essential roadworks will shortly be commencing on Barkham Road between Blagrove Lane and Sandy Lane. These works are the first phase of a 2 phase project. Phase 2 of the Works is located between Blagrove Lane junction and the junction of Woosehill Lane and is programmed for a later date during 2009, subject to funding. It was our intention to complete both phases prior to the end of March 2009, however additional works were identified and the funding available could not cover this. Both Phases will include drainage repairs, re-kerbing, and include resurfacing of the footways and carriageway. The works are being undertaken by Wokingham Borough Council as part of their ongoing programme of major maintenance schemes.  These Works are being managed and delivered through the Wokingham Highways Alliance which comprises Wokingham Borough Council, WSP and Balfour Beatty Infrastructure Services Ltd.

Phase 1 works will commence on Monday 2nd February 2009 and will take approximately 13 weeks to complete. Working hours will be between 0730 and 1700 hours Monday to Friday and 0830 to 1600 hours on Saturdays & Sundays. These works are planned to include working 7 days per week where possible to reduce the duration and inconvenience of the Works.

Where possible, the works will be carried out using temporary traffic signals Monday to Friday, however a closure of Barkham Road will be required between Sandy Lane and Woosehill Lane. Commencing on the 14th February 2009 for 10 consecutive weekends with the exception of the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, 10th to 13th April. The road will be closed from 0830 on the Saturday and re-open by 1600 on the Sunday.

The signed alternative route for through traffic is along Bearwood Road, King Street Lane, Reading Road, Shute End and Station Road or this route in reverse.

During the weekend road closures, the Saturday 144 Bus Services that travels along Barkham Road, Barkham Street and Barkham Ride will be diverted up or down Molly Millars Lane & Finchampstead Road to rejoin the normal route at Barkham Ride. An alternative Saturday taxi shuttle service will pick up or drop off bus passengers at their scheduled stops within the closed section of Barkham Road.

Access to properties will be maintained at all times although there may be occasions when vehicular access will be difficult during works directly outside a property. There will be a need for some vehicular restrictions during the carriageway excavation and resurfacing works when the carriageway will be required to be completely clear of vehicles. Further information will be provided as the work progresses.

All affected residents have been notified.

If you have any issues or require any further information during the works then please do not hesitate to contact me on the number below.

Barkham Road is a secondary distributor road. Delays to traffic using the road are expected during working hours.
